RES Tool Announced

Verbal consultation - energy efficiency and building sustainability

On Friday 6th May, the Victorian State Government announced the release of their Residential Efficiency Scorecard (RES) tool.   To quote the article “The Victorian governments residential efficiency scorecard, an Australian first, will begin in September as a part of its energy and jobs initiative, funded in the latest state budget.”

The ‘RES Tool’ will provide a consistent mechanism for measuring the efficiency of a residential property. This is great news as it will provide better information for consumers who are looking for comfortable, cost efficient homes to buy or rent. We think it would also greatly benefit builders and developers as they could use the rating to provide a more holistic view of the energy efficiency of a home when marketing their products.

With the pilot testing revealing most homes in Melbourne rate a sorry ‘3’ out of ’10’ stars. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of making homes more comfortable and efficient.

We are looking forward to seeing the RES Tool rolled out across Victoria.  Used properly, the tool has the potential to really  help Victorians to reduce their energy costs.
